325IX Fluid Changes DIY

This is a quick write-up on how to change the fluids in your 325IX. I wasn't able to find any write-ups online so hopefully this helps some people out! I am doing this to a 5-speed. For auto transmissions you will need different transmission fluid/steps. I also had to postpone doing my front and rear differential dues to me not being able to get the drain plugs out, and not having replacement ones on hand yet.

What you will need (I provided Amazon links to exactly what I used as well):

17mm ratchet

Here are the capacities:

Front Diff: .75 Quarts of 75W90 Gear oil

Rear Diff: 1.8 Quarts of 75W90 Gear Oil

Transfer Case: 0.6 Quarts of ATF Fluid

Manual Transmission: 1.4 Quarts of MTF Fluid

Manual transmission:

As a general rule of thumb for doing fluids, ALWAYS remove your filler plug first, that way if it's stuck on you don't find out after all your fluid is already out.

Your manual transmission requires the 17mm allen socket. If you don't have one on hand you can take a lug bolt, and back two nuts against eachother then grab one of the nuts with a ratcheting crescent wrench. The drain plug is on the bottom near the transfer case, and the fill plug is on the passenger side of the transmission.

I had trouble getting my socket in next to the transmission, this method worked great!

17mm drain plug

Once all the fluid is drained, inspect and clean the magnetic drain plug for debris, and reinstall. To fill the fluid back up you can use a fluid pump, or what I did. I snaked a piece of clear tubing next to my shifter and routed it into the fill hole of the transmission.

I couldn't find anything that would screw onto the tiny threads of the RedLine bottles so I had to improvise:

You can either measure out exactly how much fluid you need and pour it in, or you can fill it until fluid comes out of the fill hole. I did a combination of both.

Transfer Case:

For the transfer case it's essentially the same. There's a 17mm drain bolt on the bottom, and a 17mm fill bolt on the side. Again, pull the fill plug first then the drain plug. To reach the transfer case, I had to route the clear piping on the drivers side this time.
